The Cascade of Portland
Carr Brook issues from the rugged hills of Meshomasic Forest, whispering with delight as it tumbles some 15 feet over a remote, forest-crowded knoll.
Certainly among Connecticut’s more remote waterfalls, accessing this modest cataract known simply as the “The Cascade” demands a mile-long hike from a secluded dirt, logging road east of the Connecticut River. The path is well-worn though, being part and parcel to the Shenipsit Trail which carries hikers 40 miles north from the falls to within just a few miles of the Massachusetts border.
