Indian Well Falls
Bound for its confluence with the Housatonic River, Indian Hole Brook dramatically plunges some fifteen feet into a mossy, rock-walled oasis before weaving onwards through the forests of Shelton.
“Traditon says the Indians fathomed the well to a depth of a hundred feet and found no bottom,” recalled one 19th-century historian, referring to the dark pool at the base of Indian Well Falls. This storied waterfall now lends its name to a few hundred acres of wooded parkland along the Housatonic.
